Sclerotherapy

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy involves the identification of abnormal veins and the injection of a solution into varicose veins or spider veins. This solution breaks down the inside lining of the vein and causes it to collapse and the walls of the vein falling flat on top of each other. The body will then absorb the remaining dead tissue from the vein. It is a very safe method. Both varicose veins and spider veins are treated this way.

It is also effective for treating veins in the face, but the very small veins are difficult to cannulate and it is suggested that they rather be treated with radio waves or laser.

What is varicose veins?

Varicose veins are veins that are dilated and incompetent, which means that they are no longer able to function normally and thus don’t allow blood to return from the legs to the heart.  They appear as unsightly dark veins on the legs. They often bulge and may cause pain, muscle cramps and swelling.

What is spider veins?

Spider veins, otherwise known as telangiectasia, are merely a small type of varicose vein. They appear as small red or purple thread veins.

THE TREATMENT:

Spider veins

Doctor treats both legs in one treatment session of 1 hour. Patients wear bandages for 2 days after the treatment, but can continue with their daily activities immediately after the treatment. Usually 2-3 treatments are necessary about 1 month apart from each other.

Varicose veins

Varicose veins usually need 1 to 2 treatments per leg. Only one leg is treated at a time. The treatment takes 30 min. A medical examination is scheduled two weeks post treatment. Bandages are worn for 4-5 days.

Threading

What is threading?

PDO (polydiaxanone) Threading is a Medical cosmetic technique done by which is used to lift and tighten sagging skin in the cheeks, jowls, and neck, strengthen the contour of the face and reduce roundness. It can be applied to other areas too (but less commonly), like the breast, knees, thighs and abdomen. The threads are introduced into the area with a needle and form a support structure for the tissue of the face due to collagen synthesis. The skin’s regeneration of collagen is promoted and to be the goal of the therapy. Therefore, it can have positive additive affect because of it collagen stimulation, mild volumization, distribution of tissue and tissue suspension or lifting.  There is an immediate result, but the lifting effect is at its peak 6 months later when collagen has formed around the threads.

Who is a good candidate for PDO Thread Lifting?

The best candidates for PDO Thread Lifting are men and women who are beginning to experience sagging of the mid and lower face, visible jowls and loose skin on the neck, around eyes, cheek, lip corners and chin.

How does the procedure work?

Local anaesthetic is injected into certain areas of the treatment area. The correct type of thread for the technique is selected. The PDO thread is then introduced using a cannula or micro-needle into the required area just below the skin, and when the needle is taken out, the thread remains implanted in the skin. There is then tightening and skin rejuvenation from the natural wound healing process. Certain threads are designed to allow the physician to create even more pull for stronger and more lifting effect.

The procedure will take around about 30-60 minutes, depending on what treatment you will require. You should be able to fully resume your everyday routine and social commitments immediately, although at times there may be minimal bruising.

What are the threads made of?

The threads are made of a material called PDO – or Polydioxanone, a clinically proven bio-compatible and bio-degradable material that is widely used in medical suturing. There are different thread designs for different technical effects.

Can threads be combined with other treatments?

PDO Thread Lifting is a tailor made treatment which is adjusted to your requirements. It can be used alone or in combination with other treatments to deliver optimal results e.g., Dermal Fillers, Botulinum Toxin injections, micro-needling (dermapen), peels, etc.

How long until we see results?

There is an immediate improvement seen after the treatment, with a visible lift in the areas treated. This will improve over a period of 2-6 months as new collagen grows between the threads and gives a further lift and tightening to the skin. The PDO threads gradually dissolve over 6 months but the resulting lift remains. Results can last between 2-3 years

Micro - Needling

What is micro-needling?

The use of an electrical instrument (dermapen) that causes mico-needle puncture in the skin at different settings for different areas, that is used either on its own or in conjunction with various products to rejuvenate, rehydrate and treat scars and acne.

What is the difference between dermapen and dermaroller?

The dermapen is an electrical device that penetrates the skin with a certain amount of needle ends at exactly 90 degrees. The penetration is more pinpointed and can be selected how deep and how fast. This allows for better penetration for therapies applied.

Most dermorollers are for home treatment devices. Their penetration depths can not be accurately preset, delivery of punctures per area can not be planned. It is a good home care device, but delivery of active products are operator dependent.

How often should I be treated?

To get maximal effect from micro-needling a course of six treatments is advised and it is highly suggested that associated treatments be taken with to get maximal effect. Each treatment is four weeks apart and on first visit the treatments are introduced and needle cartridges for followings treatments are given.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

It is often that a minor chemical peel will be applied either before or after the micro-needle treatment. A deep chemical peel is however not advised. When Dermal Fillers was applied it is best to give at least three months for the filler to settle. After botulinum toxin treatment, a period of 2 weeks to one month should be allowed before micro-needling is commenced.

How painful is micro-needling?

Most of the treatments at shallow depths are not painful, but with all treatments dermal anaesthetic is applied to prevent discomfort, especially where there are areas you will treat deeper.

Reaction after treatment will be redness, swelling and some bleeding, but is usually resolves within first two days.
